Held in conjunction with the art exhibition in the Thomas Center Main Gallery:
Temples and Festivals: A Celebration of Indian Art

September 10 – October 30, 2011
Harn Museum of ArtCurator: Allysa Peyton, Curatorial Associate for Asian Art, Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art; Co-curated by Vasudha Narayanan, Director of CHiTra (Center for the Study of Hindu Studies, University of Florida)

India's rich tradition of folk art is highlighted in Temples and Festivals, an exhibition of votive figures, scroll paintings, and temple hangings from the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art collection. Blurring the boundaries between "folk" and "fine" art, the exhibit explores the ways that the Hindu religious system pervades in the whole of everyday life in India. Temples and Festivals celebrates both the spiritual significance of the objects and their recognition as works of art.

Traditional Korean Images: The Art of Myung-ok Kang
September 10 - November 12, 2011
The work of this artist, Professor Myung-ok Kang, combines Korean folk art images and han-ji, a traditional Korean handmade paper with a unique texture and color. Using a cut-and-paste technique, Professor Kang translates folk art subjects into delicate cut-paper motifs

Concurrent with the festival is the month-long Asian Kaleidoscope Month at the University of Florida campus.

In addition to the diverse entertainment line-up, festival goers can dine on a variety of Asian foods and visit the numerous booths that will feature Asian arts, crafts and information about Asian cultural organizations.
